What is the J. Reuben Clark Law Society?

J. Reuben Clark Law Society is an organization of law school students and alumni consisting of over 65 chapters throughout the world. It is named in honor of J. Reuben Clark. It is an institution dedicated to public service and professional excellent while embracing personal religious conviction as described its mission statement:

We affirm the strength brought to the law by a lawyer’s personal religious conviction. We strive through public service and professional excellence to promote fairness and virtue founded upon the rule of law.

So who is J. Reuben Clark?

Joshua Reuben Clark, Jr. (18711961) was an American attorney, civil servant, and a prominent leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Born in Grantsville, Utah, Clark was a prominent attorney in the Department of State, and Undersecretary of State for U.S. president Calvin Coolidge. In 1930 Clark was appointed American ambassador to Mexico.
